Comfort Quilts 2000 - 2001

Each school year, we make comfort quilts to share with children who need comforting. Read below to learn about the comfort quilts of the 2000-2001 School Year. Go to Our Comfort Quilt Story 2001-2002 to read about the most recent comfort quilts.

In the 2000-2001 school year, we made a comfort quilt for our Visiting iEARN Pakistan Teacher, Mrs. Ashraf Ali, to take to the Pediatric Center at a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan.

First, we designed nine square patches with smiling faces for the quilt and then our teacher sewed the patches together.

Then, we presented the finished quilt to Mrs. Ashraf Ali on her last day at Sunnyside School. Read more about our visit from Mrs. Ashraf Ali.

Comfort Quilt for the Pullman Emergency Medical Team

We are also making a comfort quilt for the Pullman Emergency Medical Team ambulance to comfort children who need to ride in the ambulance to the hospital for emergency care. Here is the comfort quilt for the ambulance. It is 2 feet wide by 1 foot high.

Here is a close-up of one of the patches. We hope the smiling faces comfort and cheer-up children who have to ride in the ambulance.

Our classroom coteacher helped make this quilt.
She showed us the quilt layers with backing, quilt top and quilt batting.
She showed us the quilt backing.
She showed us the quilt binding.
She showed us how to sew the binding.
She helped us sew the quilt binding.
We took turns doing the sewing.
Two classmates are showing the finished quilt.
We presented the finished quilt to the Pullman Emergency Medical Team. They will keep the quilt in the ambulance to comfort children being taken to the hospital.
The Pullman Emergency Medical Team (EMT) was very happy to receive the quilt. They thought it would help comfort children!
The EMT Captain read the message on the back of the quilt. It said," To the Pullman Emergency Medical Team from Mrs. Rennebohm Franz's and Mrs. Sontgerath's Sunnyside School First and Second Grade Class to comfort children. May 30, 2001."
