Caring About Our iEarn Teacher Friend From Pakistan

Mrs. Ashraf Ali was a Visiting Teacher to Sunnyside School. Her visit was sponsored by the U.S. State Department and iEARN.

This is a teacher friend from Karachi, Pakistan. Her name is Mrs. Ashraf Ali. Karachi is the biggest city in Pakistan.She showed us the Pakistani flag that has a green and white background with a crescent and a star on it. The neighbouring countries of Pakistan are India, China, Afghanistan and Iran. She told us that people in Pakistan speak in Urdu.

Pakistan has the second highest mountain peak in the world. It is called K2. Mrs.Ashraf Ali told us that there are four states in Pakistan. States are known as provinces. Their names are Punjab , Sind , Balouchistan and N.W.F.P.The name of the sea near Pakistan is the Arabian Sea.The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad.

The most favourite sport of Pakistani people is Cricket. People come to climb the mountains in Nothern Pakistan.The game played by the people living in Northern Pakistan is Polo.There are girls in Northern Pakistan who only wear black clothes.This place is called Kailaash. People in Kailaash use different coloured beads to decorate their hair. In Southern Pakistan, people grow Mangoes and custard apples.

Mrs.Ashraf Ali taught us the numbers from one to twenty in the Urdu language. The numbers below show the Urdu spelling and (sound spelling).

Mrs.Ashraf Ali helped us learn to say the numbers from 1 to 20 in Urdu.

 

Mrs.Ashraf Ali helped us practice saying the numbers and we typed them onto our computer so we can remember them.


Sharing Our Quilt Math

We showed Mrs.Ashraf Ali our quilt math. Every school day, we put up a quilt patch to count our days of school. We have six quilts so far to count our days of school. (Click here to see our Days of School Quilt Math.)

Sharing Our Global Art Project

"A Sense of Caring"

Our classmates are showing Mrs.Ashraf Ali our artwork for our iEARN Global Art Project "A Sense of Caring". We painted pictures about how we care about each other, our families, our pets and animals, and our friends.

This classmate is reading his writing to Mrs.Ashraf Ali. His writing describes the caring in his artwork.

 

We made an envelope for Mrs.Ashraf Ali to take some of our Global Art "Sense of Caring" paintings and writing to her students in Karachi, Pakistan. They will send us email when they receive our artwork. They will send us paintings and writing about caring.

 


Sharing Our Comfort Quilt Project

We showed Mrs. Ashraf Ali our comfort quilts and she read our website pages about our comfort quilt project. We showed her how we make the comfort quilt squares with fabric crayons. On her last day at Sunynside School, we presented her with a comfort quilt for her to take to the Pediatric Center at a Karchi Hospital where we hope it brings comfort to children who are in the hospital.

We also gave her a comfort quilt kit with fabric crayons, and cloth so that she and her daughter could make comfort quilts.

 


 

Sharing A Trip to the Pond with

Mrs. Ashraf Ali

We went to a pond near our school with Mrs.Ashraf Ali. We study this pond all school year. We make science observations at the pond.We check the temperature and pH of the pond water.

We showed Mrs.Ashraf Ali the trees at the pond. Here is a picture of a tree by the pond that has flowers on it. It was Spring when Mrs.Ashraf Ali came to visit us. Our trees are very different from the trees in Pakistan.


Mrs.Ashraf Ali Met Our P.E. Teacher

Our P.E. teacher told Mrs.Ashraf Ali how we learn to so sports and exercise in P.E. P.E. means Physical Education. Mrs.Ashraf Ali watched us play a game in P.E. class. We have P.E. in a big gym.


Faculty Meetings

Mrs.Ashraf Ali gave a presentation to the Sunnyside School Faculty about education in Karachi, Pakistan and her interests in doing iEARN projects. She visited Sunnyside classrooms.

 

Mrs.Ashraf Ali met with Sunnyside School first and second grade teachers. Together, they enthusiastically shared ideas about teaching and talked with about the importance of global education. They talked about having students in Pakistan and Pullman do learning projects together using technology like email and websites.

Mrs.Ashraf Ali was a dinner guest at teacher's homes in Pullman. The Sunnyside School faculty enjoyed having her as an iEARN Visiting Teacher!
