October 1999
When
we had finished our research on what grass seeds to plant on
the island, we called Mr. Fetter to give them a report. Two
of our classmates gave the report using the speakerphone so
the whole class could hear the conversation with Mr.
Fetter. We
decided to meet at the pond during the second week of
October to plant the grass seed.
We
met Mr. Fetter, Mr. Davis, and one of Mr. Davis's helpers at
the pond. They
helped us fill the seed bag with grass seed. Here
is a picture of the seed bag.
Mrs.
Rennebohm Franz and Mr. Davis's helper waded out to the
island with one of our classmates with the seedbed.
One
of our classmates spread seed on the island.
When
we finished seeding the island, we seeded the area around
the shore where the bug trucks that came to rebuild the
island had worn down the grass. People
from the Parks and Recreation Department and a parent
volunteer helped the class to the seeding. Here
is a picture of the grass seed on the ground.
Everyone
got a chance to spread grass seed. When you turned the
handle, the grass seed went flying out of the bottom of the
seed bag. It
was fun to do the grass seeding!!! The
city put mulch on the grass seed. Now
we wait until Spring to see how the new grass
grows!!
