Our Violet Botany Lesson

April 15, l999

On April 15, 1999, we studied violet flowers in our classroom. We used a digital camera to take this picture of a violet. The violets were blooming in our city of Pullman. Each violet flower is about 1/2 inch tall. The stem is very thin. The violet smells beautiful!!! It smells sweet. The violet has five petals. The center of the violet is yellow with white stripes. Violets come in the colors of violet, white, yellow, blue and red.

Here is a side view of one of our violet flowers.

Here is a front view of a violet leaf. The edges of the leaf are bumpy.

We used our hand lens to look closely at the violets.

In this close-up image, you can see the veins and the bumpy edges of the violet leaf.

We made drawings of our violets after we learned about them. Here is a sketch of a violet flower and leaf.

We made large paintings of violets. In real life, each one of the paintings is 12 inches wide and 18 inches high. Here are small images of our paintings.

We hope you have enjoyed our Violet Garden!
