Five Patches

Each classmate wrote a sentence about the quilt in his/her math journal:

1. We have 5 whale patches so far. (Jarrod)

2. We have an alphabet letter pattern by rows of [ABCD] [A…] so far. (James)

3. We have a whale name letter pattern by rows of [o,f,d,h] [o…] so far. (Annie)

4. We named the whale the letter pattern and the background the number pattern. We also named the whale name pattern using the first letter of its name. (o: orca, f: fin, d: dolphin, h: humpback) (Sarah)

5. We have a number pattern by rows of [1234][4…] so far. (Calvin)

6. On two of our patches we have orcas on them. (Fiona)

7. We have a dark light pattern by rows of [d,l,d,d][d…] so far. (Hannah)

8. We have an orca on today's patch. (Rielley)

9. We have 2 orcas, 1 fin, 1 bottlenose, and 1 humpback so far. (Simone)

10. The first patch in the second row is an orca and the orca looks like it's swimming in the clouds. (Stacey)

11. We have 5 patches and it is October 5th too! (Roshan)

12. We have a prediction that the next patch will be a pigmy sperm whale or bottlenose whale or minke whale. (Claire)

13. We have a prediction that the next patch will be a beluga because we don't have one yet. (Elise)

14. We have a prediction that the next patch will be a pilot whale because it will follow the pattern of dark light. (Marta)

15. We have a prediction that the next patch will be a orca. (Henry)
