Our pumpkin quilt was the third days of school quilt in the 1999-2000 school year.
We were learning about fall pumpkins when we made this quilt.
It had 36 patches all together.
Everyone in the class made pumpkin patches for the quilt that looked like this:
Each row had six patches with tan fabric patches in between the pumpkin patches.
Here is our finished 6 by 6 pumpkin patch days of school quilt.
Here are the math comments on the day the 36 patch pumpkin quilt was finished:
1.We have 36 patches in our 3rd quilt!
2.We have 6 rows. We have a 6 by 6 quilt.
3.Our third quilt is done.
4. We have a letter by rows and columns of
A B A B A B
B A B A B A
A B A B AB
B A B A B A
A B A B A B
B A B A B A.
5.We had 25 patches in our 1st quilt,16 patches in our 2nd quilt and 36 patches in our 3rd quilt. We have had 77days of school so far.
25 +16+ 36 = 77
6. We have a number pattern by columns and rows of:
1 2 1 2 1 2
2 1 2 1 2 1
1 2 1 2 1 2
2 1 2 1 2 1
1 2 1 2 1 2
2 1 2 1 2 1
7. We have 30 short spacers and 7 long spacers.
8. We have a prediction that there will be 2 vertical long spacers on the sides of the quilt because the long vertical spacers will connect to the horizontal spacers.
We used math manipulatives to learn how 6 rows with 6 in each row makes 36.
1. We used paper squares to make patterns of 6 by 6:
2. We drew rows of 6 by 6 dots on the whiteboard:
It was fun learning about 36 patch quilts!
