August 2000

*Welcome to our brand new, exciting, learning-filled school year!!! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 30! We look forward to a wonderful, wonderful year with your child and you!

* School Supplies: Thank you for sending your child's school supplies on the first day or as soon as possible. In addition to bringing the items on our multiage classroom supply list, each child will need to bring a pair of P.E. shoes, labeled with his/her name or initials. These shoes will be kept at school for wearing in gym lessons and in the classroom (when outdoor shoes are muddy and wet).

*Parent Volunteers:We welcome having parent volunteers in our classroom, especially for our reading/writing program and for field trips. We have had many wonderful parent volunteers in our room and I look forward to having many helpers this year! Our goal is to have every parent help in the classroom sometime during this school year. Thank you for sending a note with your child letting us know when you would like to be a parent volunteer (every week, once a month, or once a year).

*School starts at 8:30 when the outside bells ring. If your child rides the bus, he/she will arrive and go to the back playground before the bell rings (with time to eat if she/he is having a school breakfast). If your child is a car rider or walker and having breakfast at school, be sure she/he is at school by at least 8:15 a.m. to finish breakfast before the bell rings. If your child is a car rider or walker, be sure he/she is at the back school playground in time to line up with our class at the 8:30 bell. All children line up in the back of the school at the 8:30 bell and come into the building with their class.

*Car Rider Safety: If you are driving your child to school, please drive your car into the school parking lot and all the way to the back to drop your child off by the fence and also to pick your child up after school. For safety reasons please do not have your child get out of the car or be picked up in the front of the school by the bus lanes or by the yellow curb at the side of the school near the kindergarten classrooms. After school, all car riders will be sent to the back of the school to be picked up. Thank you very much for helping us have safe arrivals and departures from school.

*Home/School Communication: It is important for us to have good communication between school and home throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions and information that is important for me to know in order to best help your child have a good school year. I can be reached by email at kfranz@psd267.wednet.edu or by school phone at 334-1800 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. I hope to have an answering machine on our classroom phone so that even if we are out of the room, you can leave a message.
