The I*EARN Global Art Project: A Sense of Caring

In the 1998-99 school year, we started the I*EARN Global Art Project "A Sense of Caring". I*EARN is the International Education and Resource Network where children and youth use the Internet and Email to do school projects together that make a positive difference in the world.

Schools from around the world are exchanging artwork on the theme of how we care for one another in our homes, schools, communities, countries and the world.

First, children create their artwork and then they write an essay to describe their artwork, describe how they care for others, and how others care for them.

The purpose of this project is to share through artwork and writing how we are caring and compassionate people around the world.

We send some of our artwork to each of the other schools and they send us some of theirs.

When we get a package of artwork in the mail, we open it together as a class. We use our classroom globes and maps to see where the package came from and the route it traveled to get to our school.

Here is our teacher with two envelopes of artwork. We like to look at the stamps on the packages!

Here we are looking at a new artwork.

We talk about the artwork and writing with each other at our classroom tables.

We are really happy to see the artwork from around the world!

We put our collection of artwork up in our Sunnyside School library classroom so everyone can look at the beautiful art and writing.

We carefully read what each artist has written about caring.

One of our classmates is reading the Spanish words on the artwork from children in Nicaragua.

We send email to our friends around the world to tell them thank you for their artwork and to tell them how we like their ideas about caring.

Here are our classroom pieces of artwork and writing about caring.
