3. Mural Paintings and Books

" One year, the class made this mural painting of the pond habitat. There are two ponds at Sunnyside Park. They are connected by a stream. There is a small bridge over the stream. When we go to the pond, we walk all the way around the big pond and then we go look at the small pond. "

"Here is a picture of the mural. "

(It is 3 feet tall 6 feet long.)

"We read lots of books about ponds. Here are some of the books we read.

All Eyes on the Pond by Michael J. Rosen and Tom Leonard (Hyperion Paperbacks for Children, 1995)

In the Small, Small Pond by Denise Fleming (Scholastic Inc. 1993)

Pond Life by George K. Reid, Herbert S. Zim, Sally D. Kaicher, and Tom Dolan

(Then a second grader read aloud about water birds from the book Watching Water Birds by Jim Arnosky and another second grader read "Great Blue Heron" poem from the book Bird Watch by Jane Yolen)
