Pond Photo Journal

It was a pretty view of Pullman when we walked to the pond.

We saw a mountain ash tree. The birds like to eat the mountain ash berries in the winter.

Our class is at the pond. We are making observations about the pond habitat.

The Sunnyside pond is frozen. The ice is medium thin. There are big chunks of ice on the pond.

There was a bunch of bread frozen in the ice!!!
Oh my!!!!! This is a problem because its not good for the ducks to eat bread and the bread pollutes the water!

You can see pieces of thicker ice in the thinner ice. The ice melted, broke apart, and then froze again.

Our class is making observations about the pond habitat.

There was open water in the big pond.

The open water was at the edge of the big pond. We walked around the pond to get a better look at the ducks in the open water.

We were watching the ducks. A classmate raised his hand to share an observation about the ducks.

These two classmates are looking carefully at the ducks. It was very cold!!!!

There were willow leaves on top of the ice. They were frozen in the ice!
The
farm duck was looking for food in the water. A female and male mallard duck
were standing on the ice near the open water. We wondered how heavy are ducks?

The waterfall is really frozen. There are icicles on the edge of the waterfall. COOOOL!!!!!

Two ducks are walking on the ice. Two ducks are standing on the thin ice beside the open water. The other ducks and the farm duck are swimming in the open water.

Then, almost all the ducks were out of the open water. They were walking away from us because we were noisy and disturbed them. We need to be quieter next time.

This is the island in the big pond. The water is frozen. There is snow on the island.

The little pond was frozen too. There was no open water in the little pond. There were no ducks at the little pond. Ducks need open water.

We saw lots of interesting winter things at the pond. We made lots of observations. We made comments about the pond to each other.
