We studied the solar system and space. We learned about our Earth's moon. Using a photo slide from the Seattle Pacific Science Center, we learned about the craters on the moon. Then we sketched and painted science pictures of the moon. We worked hard to make our paintings look like the real moon. If you look closely at some of the paintings, you can identify some of the craters of the moon.
We watched the phases of the moon at home with our families. We used charts we had drawn at school that showed the phases of the moon. Here is the letter we brought home to invite our families to watch the moon with us.
Dear
Family, This
year, March has two full moons!!!! On Tuesday, March 2nd, we
had a full moon. We will have another full moon on
Wednesday, March 31. Please help me look at the moon at
night during the month of March and help me record what I
see on my Lunar chart. I
can bring my chart back to school at the end of
March.
We made a star quilt for one of our Days of School Quilts. The quilt had fabrics that had all different kinds of star designs on it. We called it our meteor quilt because when we made it, we were studying meteors. Here is a picture of our 25 patch meteor quilt. Each patch after the first patch is made of 2 triangles.
We also made an Astronaut Quilt while we were learning about the Solar System. Here is an image of our 9 patch Astronaut Quilt.
We hope you enjoyed our moon paintings and astronomy quilts!
