Our Writing About the Leaping Lenses Lessons:
What Did We Learn?
|
First Graders "I learned about lenses. I used a concave lens." "I learned about lenses. It was fun." "I learned that lenses are like magnifying glasses. I liked the Fresnel lenses. I think lenses are cool." "I like the magnifying lens." "I like the magnifying lenses because I can make people look bigger." "I like the Fresnel lens because it makes people's faces look neat." "I liked the Fresnel lens. I learned that it makes things look wider." "The laser light was red light. It was shining on the wall. That was the greatest thing." "I learned that if you use a Fresnel lens [to look] at something, it will look big." |

Second Graders " I learned about concave and convex. I had a fun time with the Fresnel lens because everything looked wider. We looked at different kinds of lenses." "I had a fun time. I learned that when you put a magnifying glass to a something, it looks like a giant size. I had a fun time." "Lazor light reflects off the wall but you can't see it [the beam] moving. If you spray fog on it, you can see it [the beam]. If you put the laser light up a curly tube, the light goes in it and turns red. Laser light can be very dangerous if it gets in a person's eyes." "Lenses, if they get too close, can strain your eyes. The wrinkles in your skin look a lot bigger. Things look a lot bigger and more interesting. Your eyes have lenses too." "I learned that leaping lenses make you see things different. I learned that some lenses make you look bigger or smaller and clear. I liked the Fresnel lens." "I learned there about three different lenses. They are convex, concave and Fresnel lenses. The convex lenses make things bigger, blurrier, and upside down. The concave lenses make things smaller, right side up, and clear. The Fresnel lenses make things clearer than convex lenses, make things wider, reflect light in all directions and they use them in light houses." "I learned that people do not need glasses if they have good eyesight.I learned that the inside of sea shells look like the outside. I learned that people use Fresnel lenses to curve lights in the top of light houses." "I liked the Fresnel lenses because they made things wide. I liked it because I like things bigger." "Lenses can make you look like upside down or right side up or blurry or clear. We looked at magnifying lenses and Fresnel lenses. I learned about lenses." "I learned there are convex lenses that make things big, right side down and blurry. There are convex lenses that make things small, right side up and clear." "My favorite part was when we looked through the Fresnel lenses. I liked when we saw and learned about lasers and light. I liked when we looked at glass lenses at stuffed animals and faces. It was cool when the Pacific Science Teacher sprayed fog in a can on the laser so we could see it. I likes sharing ideas and having fun. It was cool learning about how lenses make light go in all different directions. My favorite lenses were the the Fresnel and concave. The laser was red really bright light. It was cool when she put the laser into the tube." |
