Welcome to the School Year 2000-2001 !!!

We are excited that this has been a great, great school year as our multiage class with both first and second grade children learn together. We use new technologies along with many other classroom learning tools including books, paper, pencils, art supplies. maps, globes, and math manipulatives as we study Math, Science, Reading, Writing, P.E., Art, Music, and Places, People, & Languages in our World!

The links to Ms. McLane's Bicycle Journey will tell you all about how we follow the journey of Seattle 1st grade teacher, Ms. McLane, as she bicycled around the world for the year 2000. You and your child can read the email messages she sent about her travels! The link to Water Habitat Project will tell you all about how we study our local Sunnyside Park Pond and how we share what we learn with schools around the world. The link to Science2000 tells you about all our science studies this year. The link to Quilt Math tells you about our math lessons with our Days of School quilts. The link to Math Booklets tells you about our math computation program. The links in Literacy tells you about our writing and reading programs in our classroom. The link to Social Studies tells you about how we are learning about people, places, and cultures with our local to global community using the International Education and Resource Network.

*Each school day starts at 8:30*

At 8:30, when the school bell rings and your child lines up with our class outside on the back school playground and come into the building together. Thank you for having your child at school on time. Thank you for sending your child to school well rested. Each morning we start the day with our lunch count, calendar and quilt math lessons. For our daily school work, we have table areas where children do individual, small group and whole class lessons and projects. We have a classroom library of children's literature books which we use for learning to read and reading to learn about our world. We have a Globe Map Center where children learn about people and places around the world. We have a Math Center with lots of math tools! Throughout this year, we are having Science Centers where we learn about insects (like ladybugs), water habitats, and the solar system! We have computer centers throughout the classroom with keyboarding, writing, reading, science, social studies, digital image editing, email, website, and video editing software.

Our class has two fifteen minute outdoor morning and afternoon recesses. We have lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by a lunch recess time. The children begin their afternoon school work at 12:20 p.m. They are dismissed from school at at 3:00 p.m. Children being picked up by car go to the back of the school. Children riding by bus go to the front of the school.

As we have work together to create a positive learning experience for all the children in our classroom, it has been a great year!!!
